2010-2011 A New Society for a New Trend

Alex Handy, a history and management student founds Beyond Profit at the University of Cambridge. More and more students and young professionals are interested in not only seeking to make money through their career or enterprise but also to have a positive impact on society. Furthermore, the business community as a whole is also becoming increasingly conscious about creating positive social and sustainable solutions rather than simply maximising profit. Beyond Profit was founded in May 2010 as a reaction to this growing trend.

As a result of our hard work in the first year, we were awarded the NACUE New Society of the Year Award in May 2011.

2011-2012 Growing to New Heights

Building on our success, we introduced new formats such as the Beyond Profit business course to further spread our message.

2012-2013: The Sky is The Limit

NACUE Award winners at the Institute of Directors, London

We developed the Think Tank, a new platform to debate and discuss key issues around social enterprise. We were also fortunate to welcome John Bird, the Founder of the Big Issue, for our Annual Lecture, and hosted a number of crucial players in social enterprise, including Cliff Prior, the founder and CEO of Unltd.

As a result of our hard work and dedication in spreading the message of social enterprise at Cambridge, we were awarded the NACUE Social Enterprise of the Year Award in April 2013.
